Create Your Best Life with Voice Meditation

We know that meditation has many benefits, including, but not limited to:

  • Enhanced relaxation

  • Better focus

  • Diminished levels of inflammation

  • Improved sleep

Did you know these benefits occur because meditation literally changes your brain?

Think of your brain as the hardware of this computer that is YOU. By the age of about seven years old, it's relatively fixed. However, the software is the neurological makeup within the hardware (the brain) is plastic and can change.

Every day of our lives we go about a set of patterns, habits, and behaviors that create our personalities and how we show up. This is your perspective in the world, how you receive news, how you relate with other people, and your limiting beliefs.  These neural pathways can become ingrained in the brain.  Recall the phrase “What fires together, wires together.” This perspective and way of being is the reason why we tend to do the same actions and get the same results.

But what happens when you want different results?  What if you want to level up and how up differently in your life?

Certainly, you can consciously choose different actions.

The patterns within your brain will tempt you to return to your old self, because it simply does not know any different. It’s like it’s saying, “Hey!  We’ve been operating in this same ol’ way for 30 years and we’ve survived.  Let’s not change, m’kay?”

So you abandon the new way of eating that you know is healthier, you stop practicing yoga, and you go back to consuming the things that maintained the life you have known.

Meditation is the key to changing all of this.

Meditation practice increases the gray matter in the brain.

Meditation activates the brain waves that allow us to create new neural pathways in the brain to perform differently.

➡️ It starts with the thought or the intention.  For example, “I want to feel empowered at work.”

Think it all the way through.  How do you LOOK if you are empowered at work?  What are you saying?  How do others relate to you?  Let your imagination and sense of wonder take over.

This will create a feeling in your body. This is a biochemical rush that relates to this up-leveled self. THIS is what you focus on in your meditation—the feeling. ✨

➡️When you focus on the feeling in your body, you connect it with the vision for yourself, and literally carve out a new neural pathway.

The more that you meditate on this feeling and the thought of your up-leveled self, the more fixed that new neural pathway becomes.

You’ve given yourself the space in your actual life to SHOW UP as that empowered self because these new neurons can fire up and connect in this different part of the brain.

You can use your voice as part of this process to enhance this process.

Yogi's commonly do meditation practice called Kirtan, which is devotional chanting.  In chanting practice, you feel the vibrations of the voice moving through the skull. Those vibrations move through the brain and change your brain waves bringing about a euphoric sense.

You don't have to practice Kirtan to enjoy this benefit.

  • You can hum and feel the vibration of your voice on your lips.

  •  You can sustain a resonant vowel, such as the long E, also taught as the Y buzz, in the Lessac Kinesensic work I teach.

By focusing your awareness on the single location of where your voice is moving in your mouth, you’re focusing on what feels good.

Your brain is learning that vocalizing in this way is positive, so it will want to do it again and creates a new pathway for you.

By focusing on the actual resonance and power of your voice with this intimate action of the Y buzz, for example, you focus on empowering yourself.

If you move through a collection of focused sounds, you will enhance your vision for yourself through the feeling of your voice and speech.

You're not only actually creating a healthy voice, but you’re also opening new neural pathways for healthy dynamic expression.

This meets the image of your empowered self and makes it much more likely for these new behaviors to stick so you show up differently in your life. You create the change you want in your world.

By including embodied voice and speech practice in your meditation, you gain a two-for-one benefit:

  • The mental clarity of your empowered self

  • The enhanced health and dynamics of your voice.

You’ll create a speaking voice that's warm, rich, and carries through space without needing to shout.

See what happens if you feel the Y buzz with your meditation practice while thinking the word “empowerment.”

Find a vision of yourself that is empowered and perhaps advocate for something that you know is important. Vocalize and feel the Y buzz to enhance the power of your voice.

You’re creating the pathway for your best self to show up.
